Separation of Actinium, Thorium and Protactinium from Liquid Media
Actinium, thorium, and protactinium are extremely rare metals that occur naturally in uranium ores.

In HCl, protactinium is absorbed byAmberSep™ 21K XLTStrong Base Anion Exchange Resin and has a low affinity for a strong acid cation resin likeAmberSep™ G26Resin.
Thorium is strongly absorbed from HCl by a strong acid cation exchanger likeAmberSep™ G26 HResin and has a low affinity for a strong base anion exchange resin.
Actinium is not ionically active and, therefore, it is not amenable to ion exchange separations.
